Sunday is Fathers' Day

Sarah skyped me before 5 AM this morning. She wished me a Happy Fathers' Day. Lena wished me a happy fathers' day as well. I am amazed at how well she speaks, at not even two years old. Already, she is using complete sentences like "I went to the pool", and "that is so high." She is an amazing kid.

Great-grandma was still sleeping at the time. She would have love to watch Lena today. Sometimes when she is arond, and hear that I am talking to Lena, skypeing with her on the computer. I would turn around, and there she is, sitting next to me, and grinning from ear to ear, waving hellos to Lena. Tim and Sarah has done a wonderful job with Lena, always so patient with her, and talking to her, and taking her to interesting places.

I took a snooze around 11AM. Well, this is Fathers' Day, and I am a father, so I think I can be allowed to sleep during the day today. I must treat myself nicely. Otherwise, who else will?
I was awaken around noon, and was informed that Loon and Sui Fun were here to visit. Sui Fun had brought some snacks: stewed chicken legs, pigs intestines, and durian cakes.

Sui Fun said she made the stewed chicken legs. She bought the pigs intestines, and retained the juice. She used the juice to boil the chicken legs, and added some oyster sauce. She must have also added some garlic, because there was a very nice taste of garlic in the sauce. The chicken legs were very well cooked, and were soft and tender. Mom enjoyed them as much as I. We joked that Sui Fun should set up a stall to sell the chicken legs, next to the lady who sold her chicken legs a few days ago. Give her some competition! We had a good laugh over that.

The pigs intestines were tender and well cooked as well, but not as tasty as the chicken legs. This is not the "Siew Cheong" (BBQ intestines) variety. You can get the Siew Cheong intestines at some rice gruel stalls. They have been deep fried, and comes out crunchy and tasty. Sometimes we crumble the intestines over rice gruels. Again, as you notice, the food is already half eaten when I thought of taking the pictures. I get so excited when I see food.

The last thing we have this afternoon is the durian cake. This is make from real durian, cooked with flour, and shaped into cylindrical rods. To eat it, you just slice out small pieces and pop it into your mouth. It is easier than eating raw durians, but not quite as enjoyable, not as tasty, and not as aromatic.

Loon has been complaining that he is not feeling well. He has 'gastric problems', and finds it difficult to swallow. Come to find out he has not been eating regularly also. I am not sure, if the fact that Lilian started working recently, that there is no one to supervise his meals, that caused the gastric problems. He is under a doctor's care, but he didn't think the pills prescribed is doing any good, so he has stopped taking them.

We all urge him to take the medicine seriously, and to take them regularly as recommended. We also want him to eat breakfast regularly. Ann brought out some oatmeal for Loon to take home, to eat every morning. He is to 'report' back in a week on his progress. I hope he goes back to his medicine. When I visited him last week, he said he had put the medicine aside and has not been taking them.

Here is a picture of Loon and Mom.
While he was here, he teased Loong2 non-stop. Theng2 was wise enough to hide in her room when she sees Loon coming. So Loon ask Loong2, "why are you so quiet?". Loong2's answer floored us: "Stress!". Ha ha. Loon said, "What-lah, you bugger. You are only 12 years old, what do you know about stress?" I suppose he is stressed from Loon's constant teasing.
