Day Before the Trip

I have been having so much trouble with my laptop this weekend. First the laptop just died unexpectedly. It is a new laptop, but it just got stuck at boot time. I tried using System Restore and Windows systems restore to go back to the previous backup version, but no deal. The laptop stubbornly refused to boot up.

After two days of loading and unloading, I finally gave up. This morning, I used the Windows Vista CD to reload the Windows program. That means wiping out all my files, my pictures, my entire computer. Ah well, at least I got it running Win dowsagain.

Boot up, log in, all look well so far. Wait, something wrong. No wireless. The wireless card is not detected. No device driver, of course. Fortunately, the ethernet port is working. I plugged in an IP cable, and have instant access to the Internet. I spent the morning trying to get to the Compaq web site to download the device drivers, until it is time to go to work. Now I don't really have to go in to work today, but I have a few things I need to have done, one of which is, my work laptop seems to be malfunctioning. First it lost its sign-on domain, and secondly, the mouse would get stuck after a few minutes. See what I mean about having problems with my computers? The IT folks (three of them showed up for this call) determined it is time to replace the hard drive in the work laptop. So off they go with my laptop, probably never to be seen again, especially since I am going on vacation starting tomorrow.

So all day long, I was wondering if I should go home early to finish setting up theCompaq laptop, or run to Best Buy to pick up another laptop. I need a laptop while I am in Malaysia, so I can Skype Paula, and Sarah. I must try to fix the Compaq laptop by 7 PM tonight, so if it is not, I still have time to run to Best Buy to pick up the Toshiba laptop I have been eyeing. I went to Staples instead to pick up a power conversion plug for Asia.

I did get all the drivers set up late in the afternoon. I installed Skype, tested calling Paula, so all looks good.

Now for the graduation pictures. I am going to upload the pictures into my laptop, and upload them to Kodak Gallery, so I can share it with family and friends. Here goes. Push in the xD disk, and up came the menu. I clicked "check folders" icon, and the pictures begin to show up. I selected all the pictures, then poof! They disappeared before my eyes. As I am watching the pictures, they just disappeared. Somehow, the disk is wiped! I lost all the graduation pictures! I am sorry, Sarah. I lost the pictures. I cried in agony. I cannot believe my poor luck so far. I have never had such disasters with my computers before. I am giving up for today. it is time to go pack up my suitcase, and leave town. :-(
