Mom makes me a couple of toasts and a bowl of oatmeal the last couple of morning. The last few days, I have had too many curry mees and hokkien mees for breakfast. Mom thought it might be a good idea to switch to something simpler.
The long awaited Beef kuay Teow soup was a disappointment. We went Perak Road 2020 restaurant. This vendor is supposed to be a branch of the famous Weld Quay vendor. We ordered the 8 Ringgits soup with the works. The soup looked good, but it appears to be watered down, tasteless. The noodles were nice and soft, but the beef is slightly tough. There was not much beef tendons in the mix as well. Loon said repeatedly, "I don't care if I say this a hundred times, we have to go to try the Ah Goo noodles in BM (Bukit Metajam, a town across the channel in the Mainland.)"
On the way home, we stopped at Mccalister Road Him Heon to buy some cookies.
Dinner came from a singular pot. It is called Yam Rice. Salted shrimps, chicken, and Yam were pre-fried, and then rice is pre-fried in a separate pot, then all the ingredients mixed together with some soy sauce. Then the whole shebang is cooked in a rice cooker. The result is a flavored rice dish with all the ingredients already cooked inside. Ann and Seng made the ingredients last night, and had it refrigerated. This afternoon, all they need to do is add water to the rice cooker.
The dish came out very good. It is aromatic, and tasty. I must try this at home. I will also try it with other ingredients like Chinese sausages and black mushrooms, chicken and vegetables
Hi Dad!
ReplyDeleteI am very sorry to hear about the Beef kuay teo soup being a disappointment! The one we had last time was very delicious, and worth the trip :)
Love you!
Bekki
Hi Becky,
ReplyDeleteThe one we went to was in Bukit Metajam, the Ah Goo (cow) Kuay Teow. Loon has been talking about it since I got here.
I miss you. Really wish you were here.
Love,
dad
