You may have noticed that I have not mentioned the food at the resort hotel since the first day. I decided the food there is so mediocre that I don't care about it any more. It is, in short, bland. Alright, tasteless too. They are well presented, but tasteless.
This morning, the breakfast buffet is again well presented. A long row of different items, starting with char kuay teow, then on to steamed dim sum dumplings, white rice, chicken rendang (spicy curry), .... I lost track after I see the chicken curry. I love spicy food, and I love curry. At home, I make chicken curry frequently. Not the rendang, but the curry. I would spoon in half a bottle of the hot curry spice into my curry mix, just to flavor it up.
I picked up a bowl of white rice, and liberally drowned the rice with chicken rendang. For good measures, I also added a couple of serving spoons of red chili sauce. Further, I added some ikan billis (little salted anchovies), and fried peanuts. This was one good dish. Satisfying, and spicy.
The waiter knows me by now. In stead of pouring me a cup of coffee, he also left the entire pot of coffee on the table for me to help myself to it. I need at least two large cups of coffee, before I can wake up for the morning.
After breakfast, I decided to take a walk. I had previously walked down to the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club, then further down to the International Jetty, and then down to Eagle Point. Since this is only 9 in the morning, and the shuttle bus leaves around noon, I have a good three hours before the bus leaves. I quickly changed into my T-shirt and jeans, put on my sneakers and went off for the walk.
It is a hot day at Langkawi today. And humid too. I stared sweating as soon as I stepped out of the building, and did not stop sweating. I have sweat coming down from my head (I was wearing a cap and my sun-shades) and flows down my cheeks on its way to the ground. Even my eye browses were sweating. It was hot!
After the walk, a quick cold shower, I watched a couple of TV programs on "How it is made." and "The deadliest catch", it was time to pack up and leave the resort.
The hotel was very kind to provide travelers a bus to the airport. The EMC group leaving today at noon consists of about 30 people. At 11:30 AM, as it my custom to be on right (nah, before time), I went to the lobby with my luggage, and announced my intention to leave at noon.
The trip to the airport is about 30 minutes. Because of some waiting for people who did not come out until 12:40, we were late getting to the airport. Fortunately, for my 2:30 flight, there was still plenty of time. There was no waiting at the Air Asia ticketing counter, so I obtained my boarding pass easily. I have had apprehension about taking Air Asia after reading about their poor maintenance records. When I boarded the plane, I felt much better. This was an Airbus 320. The interior looked almost new. The seats were in such good shape, I swear it could have just come out of the factory. I felt much better now.
We landed at 2:20, and I was at the curbside by 2:30. Brother Seng showed up with his new car shortly, and we were on the way home within minutes.
Mom was very excited to see us coming. She talked excitedly with me about various topics, including the medicines she has been taking. She even took out some of her medicines to show me - her blood pressure pills, he medicine for knee pain, etc. She is so cute.
It is great to be home.
